The Sooners finally got the bats going against Wichita State starter Tim Kelley, a Tulsa Kelley product.
Got their pitching going, too.
Relievers Chase Anderson and Ryan Duke combined for 5 1/3 innings of two-hit pitching, helping the Sooners past Wichita State 5-4 in their opener at the Norman Regional.
OU advances to play Arkansas at 7 Saturday night.
Kelley was hanling OU through  5 1/3, managing a 4-2 lead, before the Sooners struck for three runs in the sixth. The rally was built on a one-out walk to J.T. Wise, a double double to the gap by Aaron Baker, a two-run single by Garrett Buechele and a sacrifice fly by Ross Hubbard.
Nice crowd at Mitchell Park for OU’s opening game of the Regional. All seats are full, with some help from the gold-clad Shockers fans, but crimson is the dominant color.
Fans are scattered on the grassy knoll down the left field line and scattered beyond the wall on the berms that range from left to right field. Nothing like postseason baseball to bring out the Sooner faithful. Having Gene Stephenson – remember him? – in the house doesn’t hurt, either. The one-time, short-time OU coach drew some boos in the pregame introduction.
