Reynolds “perfect”
Against Baylor, defensive coordinator Brent Venables graded middle linebacker Ryan Reynolds out at 100 percent, which, Venables said, he’s never done before.
What is needed to grade out at 100 percent under Venables’ grading scale? Here’s what he says:
“It’s lining up correctly, no mental errors, no loafs, playing with great technique every snap. If you’re supposed to be in the curl, be in the curl, if you’re supposed to be in the hook, be in the hook. If you’re supposed to take your guy man-to-man, take him. If you’re supposed to blitz to the b gap, blitz to the b gap. If you’re supposed to make certain checks in certain situations, then do it. And you can’t miss tackles, when given the opportunity.
“All those things are looked at every single snap. And obviously, getting off a block is not getting blocked. That doesn’t necessarily mean every time you make the tackle, but you’re not getting stoned and flat backed and cut off from where you’re supposed to be either.”
It’s easy to see why no one’s been “perfect” before.
