Mississippi State power forward Romero Osby has elected to transfer to Oklahoma, he confirmed to The Oklahoman on Sunday evening via text message.
Osby, 6-foot-8, 230 pounds, averaged 4.3 points and 2.5 rebounds a game last season as a sophomore for the Bulldogs, who finished the season 24-12.
Scout ranked Osby as the No. 20 power forward in the country coming out of North Lauderdale (Miss.) High School.
“I just feel like my versatility needed to be showcased, and I don’t feel like I had that chance to do that in the system,” Osby told The Commercial (Miss.) Dispatch after announcing his intentions to transfer. “The guys that played ahead of me are good players, but I felt like I didn’t have an opportunity to show what kind of player I can be.”
Osby will have to sit out this upcoming season.
He will join a Sooner roster that’s been almost completely overhauled this off-season.
Counting Osby, the Sooners have added nine newcomers, including center Abdul Ahmed, point guard Carl Blair, forward Cameron Clark, forward Tyler Neal, point guard Calvin Newell, guard T.J. Taylor, power forward Nick Thompson and power forward C.J. Washington.
