You don’t think of Virginia when discussing NCAA sports powers but the Cavaliers feature one of the nation’s top spring sports programs.
Virginia’s baseball team was ranked No. 1 nationally when the Sooners upset them in a Super Regional last year to advance to the College World Series.
The Cavaliers once again are a national title contender, off to a 19-2 start. The stadium was packed for all three games against ACC rival Florida State over the weekend, another top 5 national power. All three games went extra innings. Virginia won the series, two games to one.
Virginia’s men’s tennis team is ranked No. 1 nationally and remained undefeated after beating No. 6 Texas on Sunday, which also drew a respectable crowd for tennis.
The women’s tennis team is ranked No. 11.
Don’t know about golf but it wouldn’t surprise me if Viriginia is decent.
Times are good in Virginia.
Richmond, four hours away, is the NCAA Tournament darling in the men’s bracket. Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth, both campuses located in Richmond, advanced to the Sweet 16.
You can see why recruits would be attracted to Virginia’s campus.
Driving to my hotel 25 miles back and forth each day through the Shenandoah Valley and Blue Ridge Mountains it’s very scenic. Breathtaking view. I bet it’s really gorgeous once every blooms and greens up in a month or so.
