CAMPUS CORNER — If Oklahoma secondary coach Willie Martinez is on the move somewhere, we might have received another hint today. Mesquite, Texas, cornerback prospect De’Vante Harris tweeted out of nowhere a little while ago that he had decommitted from OU.

Harris, who had a good week at the Under Armour game in Florida, committed to the Sooners way back in April. And he committed to Martinez, his primary recruiter.

Yesterday, we relayed to you that Martinez had become a candidate for both the Kansas and Illinois defensive coordinator gigs, on Charlie Weis and Tim Beckman’s new staffs.

It’s not inconceivable that Harris recognized Martinez wouldn’t be here, and so he didn’t want to be here.

Sooners safety Tony Jefferson retweeted Harris’ decommitment and added, “Why?”

He then said this, which I found really interesting … “Idk if there’s coaches changes or not at OU. But I wish they would tell the players. We would like to kno too! Haha”

So there’s that. And Martinez is Jefferson’s position coach. (I know he works at linebacker some, too, but Martinez told me early in the year he most often works with Jefferson.)

Later, he said “if he wanna go let EM. Gotta go where is best for him. No hard feelings.” Harris thanked Jefferson for that, confirming his initial tweet. (Some had wondered if his account, like another Sooners commit, Durron Neal, was hacked.)
