Kruger lands a commitment?
Oklahoma men’s basketball coach Lon Kruger has received a verbal committment from Mount Vernon, N.Y., shooting guard Isaiah Cousins.
The spring signing period begins April 11, the date players can officially sign.
Cousins also had offers from Connecticut, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Dayton, Rhode Island and Xavier among others and was one of the more highly sought after guards in the late recruiting period.
Cousins helped lead Mount Vernon to a 23-3 state runner-up finish after leading the Knights to a state title his junior season.
Known more as a scorer/slasher type player, Cousins and Buddy Heild, another incoming freshman scoring guard, should heat up the competition next season.
Cousins declined to sign in the November after receiving only mid-major offers. His stock soared once he put together a string of 30-point games at the famed IS8 basketball tournament.
“I’ve never had a senior explode like this,” Mount Vernon coach Bob Cimmino was quoted in the Westchester County (N.Y.) Journal News. “He’s been recruited as high as any player I’ve ever had. Like Jabarie (Hinds) and Ben (Gordon) it was a gradual climb. With Isaiah it was overnight.”
