OU source: Nothing to suggest Stoops considering leaving for Florida

A University of Oklahoma administrator who has been kept abreast of Bob Stoops’ dealings in the past said Saturday afternoon he hasn’t heard anything to implicate the Sooners’ coach is considering leaving for Florida.

GatorCountry.com, a Web site that covers Florida athletics, reported earlier Saturday that multiple different sources had confirmed Stoops was “finalizing a contract to become Florida’s next coach” and replace Urban Meyer, who announced his resignation Wednesday after six seasons and two national championships.

The OU source, however, countered that Stoops is much more concerned about naming an offensive coordinator than talking with Florida.

Stoops is expected to announce who will replace departed coordinator Kevin Wilson within the week, and is believed to be deciding between wide receivers coach Jay Norvell and quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel.

  Somebody just has to stir the pot. Think about it folks. He's building his dream home, kids are in a good school system,wife is happy, he's happy and he is making tons of money. He would be freakin' nuts to leave this job. This happens every year sports writers and such just stirring the pot because they have nothing else better to do.

  OU takes a back seat to no one. It is a compliment to OU that Florida keeps talking Stoops, but it is getting old. The Gators got who they seemed to really have wanted, so keep him.

  Ted, Chuck, and ESPN: how many times does Stoops have to turn down Florida before you accept that he's not interested? Fact is it would a step down for Stoops. These Gators people have a serious obsession with Stoops that is starting to border on the ridiculous.

  Sooner fans - don't get your panties in a wad. The fact that UF contacted Stoops is not a sign of disrespect for the OU program. Put it this way: if Venables left to coach a school like Ohio State, won a national championship and a bunch of conference titles, do you not think OU would give him a call if Stoops left? Would that be because OU thinks its program is better than Ohio State's? No. The guy has a prior connection to OU, so it's worth a call to ask the question. Some of y'all are bit defensive.

  There is no reason that Stoops would stoop to taking a lesser job at Florida. Perhaps in another 50 years Florida might actually begin to have a tradition that MIGHT rival that of Oklahoma, but that highly doubtful!
