But his players said during Thursday’s news conference that revenge is on their minds as they prepare to face the Sooners in a Super Regional, which begins with Game 1 Friday at 1 p.m.
Last season, OU went to Tucson, Ariz., and beat the Wildcats in a Super Regional, knocking the traditional powerhouse out before the Women’s College World Series for just the second time since 1988.
“I would say yeah, definitely,” junior third baseman Brigette Del Ponte said when asked if revenge was a factor. “Sitting at home on the couch wasn’t too fun … I really want to beat them and take it to the next level.”
Sophomore pitcher Shelby Babcock added, “I think it gives us a good urge to play our hardest against them. Last year, it wasn’t fun going home and watching them be at the World Series.”
