Every year we learn their names, their numbers and their stats. If we’re lucky, we see their personality shine through after a big play or during the slice of a quote in the newspaper. The men in the Oklahoma Sooners jerseys are more than a number in a program or another chance at a national title. They are student athletes with stories waiting to be told. We’d like to thank OU Athletics Communications staff for their assistance. And now, The Oklahoman brings you “The Man Beneath The Helmet.”

Name Dominique Whaley

Nickname D. Dub

If I weren’t playing football, I’d be going to school.

If I could trade positions for a day, I’d choose safety.

My favorite part of OU is Coach’s parking spot.

My favorite part of football is being with friends.

The weirdest question I’ve ever been asked is: do you know Landry Jones?

I chose my number because I couldn’t keep 31 and 8 was my first single digit number.

I’m on Twitter once a day.

My favorite meal my momma makes is anything she makes. Home cooked meals are the best.

I chose OU to win a national title.

Most people don’t know this but I have two brothers and four sisters.

The toughest part about being a student athlete is making sure you stay a student athlete.

I wish I could be faster.

My best stress reliever is my kids and music.

On game day, I listen to rap.

If I could be Big 12 commissioner for a day, I would try and set up a Big 12/SEC match up.

Something you should know about this team is we are all fun characters.

My favorite super hero is Hulk.

Nothing pumps me up more on game day than music.

My celebrity crush is Ciara.

The person who motivates me most is my family.

Oklahoma football is our daily lives.
