Five-year-old Cooper Barton donned his blue Michigan shirt to class at Wilson Elementary last week.

He’s from a family of proud Wolverine fans, but Barton was embarrassed when the principal asked him to turn the shirt inside out.

KWTV News9 reported that the principal was following the Oklahoma City School System dress code which doesn’t allow any college apparel to be worn in school unless it’s OU, OSU or another in-state school. It also doesn’t allow pro gear either.

Now, Barton’s mother is outraged and the school system is looking into changing its dress code.

“They should really worry about academics. It wasn’t offensive,” Barton said to News 9. “ He’s 5.”

  How sickening these rules are...those people that wrote that rule do not have enough to do...leave the kid alone

  A parent sending a child to school with full knowledge of the school's dress code, shows a lack of interest in teaching the child responsibility, and respect for authority. If the dress code is overturned, then the school district should resort to uniforms..

  Being a huge Sooner fan, I would never be in violation. But more importantly, being an American and being a dad, I find such a dress code policy constitutionally unsound and pathetically short sighted. I hope the boy's mother can get this over turned!
