Ed Harris used to play football. That was when he went to Columbia University in New York. When local theater productions intrigued him, he left Columbia, came to Oklahoma where his parents lived and began at Oklahoma’s theater department, according to the Internet Movie Database(IMDb).

That was in the early 1970s. Since then he’s acted, directed and produced movies like The Truman Show and Apollo 13. He earned Academy award nominations for Best Supporting Actor for both films.

Now, Harris’ latest role is as the voice of the introduction video for the Sooners’ “There’s Only One Oklahoma,” which plays at the start of every game before the players run onto the field.

“I have been a huge Sooners fan since the Bud Wilkinson days and very proud to be a part of this season,” Harris said. “Boomer Sooner!”

Per OU Athletics, the introductino film will include appearances from former Heisman Trophy winners Steve Owens, Billy Sims, Jason White and Sam Bradford and current and past players.

The video will premier during Saturday’ home opener against Florida A&M with a kickoff time set for 6 p.m.
