After the Oklahoma-Texas Tech game in 2011, the blame started to fall on Demontre Hurst and the Oklahoma secondary. A year later, Hurst and the OU defense came out as the highest point after Saturday’s 41-20 victory against Texas Tech. Demontre Hurst talked about the importance of the OU-Texas game from a conference rankings stand point and OU’s 2012 defense.

On the importance of this game in conference race “It’s a huge step for the rest of the season. We don’t want to go down 1-2 in the conference and still want to compete for a Big 12 championship and get into the BCS game. It’s a huge game for us and a big rivalry. It’s a lot of pressure on both teams. It’s going to be a battle out there. May the best team win.

“Hopefully we get out there and take care of our business and get a W.”

On the bus ride going into the state fair “It’s crazy. It’s an experience that every college football player wants to experience. Just to see the orange and red and people will be beating on the buses. To see everyone cheering at the fair, it’s a great scene.”

On Jonathan Gray and other Texas playmaker “We watched some film on them. I haven’t got a whole lot of them. Just seeing them throughout the season and seeing them play against other teams … He’s a pretty good athlete and a great running back. He brings a lot of depth to the Texas running backs and their offense. It’s going to be a factor. We’re going to have to maintain them and slow them down.”
