Big 12 women’s basketball: OU picked to finish second, OSU seventh
With Britney Griner readying for her senior season in Waco, blocking shots and dominating the boards, that remains the case for at least one more year.
And in the preseason, as voted on by the Big 12 coaches, that coveted second slot came down to a tie between Oklahoma and West Virginia.
The experienced Sooners return their entire starting lineup and the Big 12′s best bench player, Sharane Campbell, from a squad that finished second in the conference last year and nearly reached the Sweet 16. All of their top seven scorers from that team are back for another year.
Oklahoma State’s women’s team, another young core that returns a bulk of its production, was picked to finish seventh by the coaches.
Here’s a complete look at the poll (first place votes in parenthesis; coaches weren’t allowed to vote for their team):
| 1. | Baylor (9) | 81 |
| 2. | Oklahoma | 65 |
| West Virginia (1) | 65 | |
| 4. | Kansas | 58 |
| 5. | Texas | 46 |
| 6. | Iowa State | 42 |
| 7. | Oklahoma State | 39 |
