The Man Beneath The Helmet – R.J. Washington

Every year we learn their names, their numbers and their stats. If we’re lucky, we see their personality shine through after a big play or during the slice of a quote in the newspaper. The men in the Oklahoma Sooners jerseys are more than a number in a program or another chance at a national title. They are student athletes with stories waiting to be told. We’d like to thank OU Athletics Communications staff for their assistance. The Oklahoman brings you “The Man Beneath The Helmet.”

NAME: R.J. Washington

NICKNAME: Rico Shave

If I weren’t playing football, I’d be coaching.

If I could trade positions for a day, I’d choose kicker.

My favorite part of OU is Campus Corner.

Despite what you’ve heard, I’ve never been beaten by any coaches at spades. Period.

My favorite part of football is game day.

I chose my number because it was the number I had in high school.

I’m on Twitter once a day.

My favorite meal my momma makes is gumbo.

I chose OU to win a national title.

Most people don’t know this but I am a game nerd and a cartoon freak.

The toughest part about being a student athlete is balancing sports with academic work.

I wish I could be super speed.

My best stress reliever is video games.

On game day, I listen to  rap.

If I could be Big 12 commissioner for a day, I would add Florida State and Miami.

Something you should know about this team is everybody is close.

My favorite super hero is Ironman.

Nothing pumps me up more on Game Day than music.

The person who motivates me most is my family.

Oklahoma football is not for the weak hearted.
