Mark Stoops hired as Kentucky’s head football coach
Stoops, 45, will be leaving behind a position as defensive coordinator with Florida State after almost three seasons. During his time with the Seminoles, the younger brother of Bob and Mike rebuilt the FSU defense in three seasons.
Before he arrived in Tallahassee, the Seminoles’ run defense ranked No. 93 in the nation. They also ranked 108th in total and scoring defense. Florida State was listed in the top 50 during Stoops’ first season and top 5 in his second.
In 2012, Stoops’ Seminole defense is ranked second in the country in yards allowed, fourth in rushing yards allowed, sixth in passing yards allowed and seventh in points allowed.
Bob Stoops said Tuesday that he was proud of his younger brother.
“He’s earned it,” Bob Stoops said. “He’s done really well everywhere he’s been and, of course, in the last several years at Florida State finishing it off.
“I know he’s really prepared for the job and believe, as he does, that Kentucky has a lot of potential, a lot of resource so to build so I know he’s excited about the opportunity.”
