BILL UPDATE

Roofing contractors

At stake: Senate Bill 1053 would require registered roofing contractors to file a $30,000 bond with the state Construction Industries Board. The bond would provide reimbursement for any loss or damages caused by a roofing-related service performed by the contractor or a person acting on the contractor's behalf.

What happened: Failed in the House, 49-47.

What's next: The House sponsor, Rep. Mark McBride, R-Moore, may bring it up for another vote.

MICHAEL MCNUTT, CAPITOL BUREAU
