Personal information, including Social Security numbers and spouses' names, of Oklahoma County employees and retirees was inadvertently posted on the county clerk's website over the weekend.
County Clerk Carolynn Caudill said she was “almost 100 percent sure” only employees with the county's computer services vendor and with her office and the assessor's office — eight altogether — saw the information before it was taken down.
Caudill said in an email to employees the information was contained in an annual payroll report posted Thursday evening. She said new procedures have been put in place to avoid a recurrence.
Tuesday morning, the link to the report included only employees' names and their annual salaries, as required. Caudill said the report as it was first posted included additional pages, or tabs, with personal information that is supposed to be private.
Oklahoma County has about 1,700 employees and 250 retirees.
Caudill said employees were notified by email on Monday. For those without access to email, supervisors printed and distributed the notice, she said. In addition, each person will get a letter notifying them of the breach.
Caudill's email includes information on contacting credit reporting agencies and the county's employee assistance program.
“That shouldn't have ever gone that way,” she said.
