BARTLESVILLE — The mother of a 15-month-old baby who died after suffering chronic abuse was sentenced Wednesday to 30 years in prison for her role in the child’s death.

Ashley Ann Mitchell, 24, plead guilty in January in Washington County District Court to charges of enabling child abuse and child neglect involving the February 2012 death of her daughter Emma Beth Warmerbrodt. Mitchell’s husband, Marcus Trinidad Mitchell, was sentenced last week to life in prison after being convicted of murdering his step-daughter.

“I have no doubts based on the evidence that we have heard that if Ms. Mitchell had been a better mother, Emma would be here today,” Assistant District Attorney Jared Sigler told the court. “If Ms. Mitchell had put the needs of Emma ahead of herself and Mr. Mitchell, Emma would still be alive today.”
