Heightened security gets attention after courthouse threats Published: April 4, 2013

TAHLEQUAH -- After two threats within a week, Tahlequah and Cherokee County officials are taking a hard look at security around the county courhouse.

A letter threatening a district judge and containing what later was determined to be talcum powder was received Wednesday. That led to a floor of the courthouse being evacuated and court proceedings being halted for the day.

Last week, a bomb threat was called in to the courthouse, also leading to protective steps.

The Tahlequah Daily Press reports that county officials don't think any "drastic" changes will be used, but there will a review of existing policies and procedures to ensure safety of workers and visitors to the courthouse.
