Northeast Academy senior guard T'ona Edwards verbally committed to Sherri Coale's Oklahoma squad and will sign with the Sooners for next season, Vikings coach Londaryl Perry told The Oklahoman.
Perry said Coale called Tuesday to offer Edwards a scholarship.
Edwards gives the Sooners four newcomers for next season, joining Carl Albert guard Gioya Carter; Brentwood, Tenn., guard Derica Wyatt; and Ames, Iowa, forward Shaya Kellogg.
Edwards' commitment comes only days after her Northeast teammate, 2014 guard prospect LaNesia Williams, pledged to play for OU.
Edwards and Williams helped lead Northeast to a 30-0 record and the Class 2A state championship last month. Edwards averaged 16.7 points and seven rebounds per game as a senior.
DOUGLASS SEEKING NEW BOYS BASKETBALL COACH
Anthony Andrews will not return as the boys basketball coach at four-time defending state champion Douglass, sources told The Oklahoman on Thursday.
Andrews spent just one season leading the Trojans, who completed the four-peat with an 82-80 win over Roland in the Class 4A state championship game last month. He was hired last summer to replace Terry Long, now the head coach at Mustang.
Douglass went 27-3 this past season, led by Oklahoma State signee Stephen Clark, who averaged 36 points and 12 assists per game as a senior.
An Oklahoma City Public Schools official said the district could not comment on personnel issues. The district is now looking for two new boys basketball coaches, after Scott Raper left Centennial to become Yukon's new coach on Monday.
