After what he has helped Owasso accomplish the last six months, it's hard to question Jaylen Lowe's leadership skills or his athletic ability.

In the fall, the 6-foot senior quarterbacked the Rams to the Class 6A football state semifinals. Then he headed straight to the basketball court, and guided them to the semifinals there as well.

He did it by scoring, averaging 19.3 points per game, and by distributing, regularly setting up 20-point-per-game sophomore star Shake Milton.

And with all that, Lowe earned a spot on The Oklahoman's Super 5 first team.

“He's the most competitive, driven player I've ever coached,” Owasso's Mark Vancuren said. “He is always his best against players who other people say are better than him and he consistently proved everyone they were wrong.”

Perhaps the most impressive accomplishment was the Rams' record this past season, finishing 23-4. While the football team has been solid in recent years, the basketball program has been mediocre.

The 23 wins surpassed Owasso's total number of wins from Lowe's sophomore and junior seasons combined.

“We broke a lot of records as a team,” Lowe said. “Me and Shake broke some records individually. I'm just really proud of the way we played all year. We accomplished a lot of things. It sucks it didn't end the way we wanted it to, but I think we're all proud of ourselves.”
