Selected quotes on what the participants now say about the 1988 NCAA championship game, in which Kansas defeated Oklahoma 83-79.

KU guard Jeff Gueldner: “It wasn't necessarily Villanova vs. Georgetown, but Oklahoma was pretty good. They were killing people. We put together a game where we played about as well as we could play.”

KU coach Larry Brown: “We scored against their press, gave us a chance to win the game. No ifs ands or buts. If somebody's going to press you, you gotta make 'em pay or the press gets so much more difficult. But we got great shots.”

OU coach Billy Tubbs: “The fact is, neither one of us played as well in the second half, but they played a little better than we did.”

KU star Danny Manning: “We had a great coach. We weren't the most talented, but we thought we could be the best.”

KU guard Scooter Barry: “We went into the (halftime) locker room, coach said, ‘All right guys, you did it. You proved you could play their style. You shocked the heck out of everybody. Now let's play our style.'”
