Gang colors may have provoked a man accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend in front of her four children, court records show.
Quentin Erwin Smith, 27, of Oklahoma City, was charged Thursday in Oklahoma County District Court with misdemeanor domestic abuse, records show.
According to a probable cause affidavit, the woman and children were riding in Smith's car March 26 when he became irate that their 5-year-old son was wearing a Denver Broncos cap with a rival gang's color.
Smith accused the woman of “messing” with a member of the rival gang and punched her in the face and chest, police reported. He then drove across the street to a Family Dollar parking lot, where he pulled the woman from the car and kicked her when she bent over to pick up a damaged cellphone, police reported.
A witness who gave the woman the phone to call 911, told police he saw Smith kick the woman after breaking the phone, according to the affidavit.
