The Oklahoman’s Gina Mizell took questions from readers in today’s Oklahoma State Power Lunch Chat. You can join our Power Lunch Chats Monday-Friday at 11 a.m. on NewOK.com/Sports. Here’s a recap of today’s Q&A:

Gina Mizell 11:01 a.m. Hey everyone. Welcome to another OSU Power Lunch live chat. We're light on questions at the moment, so if you've got one, fire away.
Guest 11:01 a.m. Barry Sanders JR regretting he signed with Stanford since OSU is hurting at RB?
Gina Mizell 11:04 a.m. I'm not inside his head so I really have no idea. But Stanford is going to be a top-5 team in the preseason, and I'm sure he'll have a chance to get carries now that Stepfan Taylor has moved on. And...it's a Stanford education. Hard to argue with that. As far as OSU "hurting" at RB...the Cowboys certainly lack depth--at least until Childs and Webster arrive--but I think to say the group is hurting is a stretch. Jeremy Smith, if he can stay healthy, should be fine, and Des Roland is coming along. They likely will need one of those freshmen to step up, though.
Gina Mizell 11:06 a.m. Sure...we'll start with defensive ends: Emmanual Ogbah, Victor Irokansi and Eric Davis all redshirted last year. So did Jimmy Bean after injury, so he's still a sophomore. At receiver, Jhajuan Seales and C.J. Curry (medical) are both classified as redshirt freshmen.
Boston Poke 11:07 a.m. Can you update us on the WRs and DEs who red-shirted?
Gina Mizell 11:07 a.m. Whoops, got ahead of myself. Sorry for the answer before the question.
Boston Poke 11:08 a.m. I meant to ask how they are doing?
Gina Mizell 11:11 a.m. Ogbah is in that second tier of DEs and will probably get in the rotation. JC transfer Sam Wren is in the same category. Joe Bob Clements told me last week his top three guys at the position right now are Tyler Johnson, Trace Clark and Bean. At receiver, Curry is back from his injury. Seales has always been a guy that coaches think has a lot of potential because he was a bit of a late bloomer in high school. One young receiver who did not redshirt but that I've heard a TON of positive stuff about this spring is Brandon Sheperd.
Guest 11:11 a.m. It's all so confusing. Which date is most important regarding Marcus Smart? April 16 or 28?
Gina Mizell 11:11 a.m. April 28.
Toto in Kansas 11:12 a.m. Is there any news on exactly when Marcus Smart will be announcing his NBA draft decision?
Gina Mizell 11:12 a.m. No news on an exact date. We'll pass it along once we know.
cowboy s 11:12 a.m. Any idea how the loss of Randle will affect the running back screen game as that was another threat defenses had to account for
Gina Mizell 11:15 a.m. Pass-catching has been a big focal point for the RBs this spring. Jemal Singleton told me right when practice began that, at that point, he was not comfortable with ANY of the RBs consistently catching the football. Which I thought was interesting, since Roland's pass-catching was regarded as a strength when he was coming out of high school. I blogged about all of this a couple weeks ago here http://blog.newsok.com/osu/2013/03/26/pass-catching-a-big-focus-for-oklahoma-state-running-backs-this-spring/
cowboy s 11:16 a.m. Any word beyond Gilbert, Peterson, & Lampkin which corners may see time on the field?
Gina Mizell 11:18 a.m. Again, we've written a lot about corners over the past couple weeks. Check out my man John Helsley's blog here: http://blog.newsok.com/osu/2013/04/11/osus-gilbert-wants-to-rewrite-final-chapter/ and my Q&A with Van Malone (which also includes a link to a story about the position group's overall quest for tighter coverage) here: http://blog.newsok.com/osu/2013/04/09/oklahoma-state-cornerbacks-coach-talks-justin-gilbert-tighter-coverage/. Right now, it looks like Peterson is in front of Lampkin to start opposite Gilbert, but I know coaches and teammates like Lampkin's aggressiveness on the field.
Boston Poke 11:19 a.m. Do we have a good shot at landing Kyle Allen?
Gina Mizell 11:23 a.m. Difficult to gauge, at this point. His offer list is obviously long. But OSU should be an attractive school for any QB. According to Rivals, Allen is expected to be at the spring game--excuse me, "finale"--next weekend. So that's certainly a chance for Mike Yurcich, Mike Gundy and Co. to make an impression. I'm not sure how Foster Sawyer's decision to commit to TCU impacts Allen, if at all.
Gina Mizell 11:24 a.m. Side note: Allen's high school, Desert Mountain, was in the same region (district) as the high school I went to. They were terrible in football back then. Amazing to see how that program has become one of Arizona's best.
Poke Fan 11:24 a.m. What happened to Matt Green, placekicker from the 2011 recruiting class?
Gina Mizell 11:26 a.m. Great question. I'm honestly unsure. From what I gathered, Bobby Stonebreaker was ahead of Green last season. Then throw in Kip Smith, who was once a blue-chipper, and Ben Grogan, and there's quite the logjam at a position where only one guy gets to play. I'll see if I can find out what specifically happened.
Gina Mizell 11:26 a.m. We're coming down to the wire. Any last-minute questions?
Poke Fan 11:27 a.m. Appreciate your dedicated work.
Gina Mizell 11:28 a.m. Appreciate your appreciation =) But seriously, thanks for the kind words.
Toto in Kansas 11:28 a.m. Any thoughts on Ford's basketball recruiting concepts. I have been thinking that we lack inside dominance (sometimes just presence...) and this year's recruiting there was only one offer to a player over 6'8". Seems like we will have a hard time on the glass with the likes of Baylor and Kansas tall men. Don't get me wrong - I don't think his recruiting is bad (got two ESPN100 recruits) - just puzzled at not recruiting heavier inside.
Gina Mizell 11:32 a.m. Yeah, that was a bit interesting with knowing Jurick was on the way out. And even though Cobbins really emerged in the second half of the season, he's "only" 6-8. But you need dynamic, athletic perimeter/wing players to score and be successful in the Big 12. We saw certain times this past season when Jurick simply wasn't used because that traditional big man just didn't fit. So it makes sense that was the bigger priority, even though that may present some problems against taller teams.
Gina Mizell 11:33 a.m. Ok, folks. Thanks again for your questions today. We'll do it again sometime next week...spring game week! Keep it locked here on NewsOK.com for all your OSU coverage until then. Hope you have a great weekend!
