Looking At This Thunder-Lakers Series Through Chinese Divination

A co-worker passed along this note and I thought it was fairly interesting and definitely worth sharing. Take it for what it’s worth. If it confuses you, join the club. This stuff is over my head. But it’s probably because, from what I understand of it anyway, I don’t put any stock into these types of things anyway.

I was thinking about the Lakers and Thunder series and it reminded me of an I Ching hexagram…I looked it up and yes, it did ring a bell…

I Ching is an old Chinese method of divination. You have a question in mind, and you throw down three coins. Depending on how they land, you mark down either a broken (yin) or unbroken (yang) line. You do that six times, each time stacking another line above the one you just drew. This gives you a hexagram, consisting of two trigrams, one above the other. Each trigram is called something like “mountain” or “fire” or “water”. So, you might end up with a hexagram called Wind over Earth, or Sky over Mountain, or Lake over Thunder.

The Lake over Thunder hexagram represents Adapting. Adapting brings exceptional progress, according to the I Ching, or Book of Changes. “Growth (thunder) in the midst of excess (lake) forms the condition of Adapting. An enlightened person, therefore, when in darkness, leads the way within for a comforting rest.”
