Piggybacking off Darnell Mayberry’s post from earlier today, examining if Serge Ibaka will be suspended for Tuesday’s game against the Lakers, here’s a look at the recent precedent the league has set.

Three times this season, players have struck opponents in the groin or groin area. All three have been suspended. And although nothing was announced on Ibaka today, there’s still time. In the DeMarcus Cousins incident, shown below, he was suspended the afternoon of his game.

Incident #1: Dwyane Wade kicks Ramon Sessions in groin
Result: One-game suspension
Comparison: Different from the Ibaka one, just because of the kick. But I don’t think it’s any more egregious.

Incident #2: DeMarcus Cousins smacks O.J. Mayo below the belt
Result: One-game suspension
Comparison: Slightly more subtle than Ibaka’s, but the closest of these three to his exact offense.

Incident #3: Will Bynum punches Tyler Hansbrough in the stomach
Result: One-game suspension
Comparison: Punches Hansbrough in the stomach right in front of the ref. Was immediately ejected AND suspended from the next game.

-Based on these three examples, I’d have to think the NBA announces a one-game suspension for Ibaka by tomorrow afternoon. But we’ll see…
