The reality behind background checks

Published: April 14, 2013

In response to “Background check debate near top of Senate's agenda” (Associated Press, April 8): Apparently nobody realizes that the seemingly “innocuous” compromise of expanded background checks is in fact the back door to a national gun registry. Think about it. If, beginning tomorrow, every transfer of a firearm requires a background check, 100 years from now there will be no such thing as possessing a legal firearm absent the government's explicit approval. If that's not a national gun registry, I don't know what is.

We've already squandered the next generation's fiscal future. Will we now squander future generations' freedoms?
