The Major League Baseball Scouting Bureau is a centralized scouting organization within the Baseball Office of the Commissioner. This scouting bureau employs many full-time and part-time scouts throughout the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico who provide information on amateur prospects as a part of its mission to support the efforts of MLB clubs in the First-Year Player Draft. Founded in 1974 as an independent organization supported by the clubs, the Scouting Bureau has officially been under the domain of Major League Baseball since 1985.
