True freshman Brennan Clay has begun to show his teammates why schools like Georgia, Michigan and Oregon wanted him.
So impressive has the San Diego native been, he’s won the backup job for the week behind starter DeMarco Murray ahead of returning lettermen Jermie Calhoun and Jonathan Miller.
Even though that’s a position Mossis Madu will likely hold when he returns from a one-game suspension, the Sooners have plans to use Clay in a variety of roles, including slot receiver and kickoff returns.
“We’ll move him around,” said QB Landry Jones. “He has really good hands and runs pretty good routes. We’ll move him around some and he seems really comfortable out there.
“He’s real explosive once he hits the hole. He gets into the hole really fast and he has a lot of speed. I think once he gets to the next level of the secondary he can outrun people to the end zone.”
