Stoops’ overview of Oklahoma football
The following is a big and very long quote from Bob Stoops basically covering all of OU football:
“Already had a couple of days on the field and it’s gone really well. I’m excited about this group. We’ve got a really good chance to be one of those teams where we’re competing for Big 12 and National Championship. Hopefully we can make some improvement on a year ago and get that done.
“Some areas that I’m encouraged about, maybe some of the strong points are maybe some of the experience in the offensive line. I think that is a big positive. The experience at quarterback of course with Landry Jones is really solid. Running backs as well.
“The area that we’ve got to really make some gains and really work hard here at two-a-days are with receivers and tight ends where we are inexperienced where you only have one guy in Kenny Stills that’s in a position to play here in the first part of the season. Those guys have to step up.
“I’m encouraged in tht the first couple of days here the young receivers look like a good and talented group and are doing well. Lacoltan Bester is doing well. Also, a little older guy. And tight ends, we have two of them: Brandon Green and Taylor McNamara were here in the spring and did really well. Sam Grant got in this summer and really looks good too. Again we just need to keep moving forward with those guys but it’s a good group of guys.
“Defensively, I’m excited and I really believe our front line is going to be better than what people think. I’m hopeful that’s the case with five seniors up there, I think that matters. David King and RJ Washington have a lot of experience and then you have all the other guys inside, Stacie McGee, Jamarkus McFarland, Casey Walker. Also, that group of seniors hopefully will make an impact here this year laong with the other guys that are returning. Chuka Ndulue has had a great winter, spring and looks great, is in great condition right now and has really made a jump in there at the defensive end position there as well.
“Really excited about some of the freshman there too. Michael Onuoha and (Charles) Tapper – those two guys really look special. They’re going to help and moving back into the backers. There’s good experience back there. We lose Travis (Lewis) but all these other guys have played and look good and in the secondary there’s some decent experience and some other guys that are coming through and stepping up.
