The Hammer surging

Jake Trotter Published: November 26, 2010

Last weekend, sophomore Ronnell Lewis made his first career start at defensive end. Despite finding his way back after missing several games due to a knee injury, Lewis played terrific. In addition to giving the Sooners their first defensive touchdown of the season, he made three tackles, including one for loss as OU obliterated Baylor’s high-powered offense.

But defensive coordinator Brent Venables cautions the best of “The Hammer” is yet to come.

“He’s getting more comfortable,” Venables said. “I think you’ll see him next spring and fall, you’ll really see a huge difference. Missing a lot of time this season hurt him, but he’s played well the last couple of weeks and we expect him to get better.”
