Deadline Hollywood is reporting that Spider-Man 4 has been scrapped following difficulties over making the film’s release date.   This reportedly will lead to an entire reboot of the franchise without director Sam Raimi or star Tobey Maguire.

Working on the ‘Spider-Man’ movies was the experience of a lifetime for me,” Raimi, who directed all three “Spider-Man” films, said in a statement Monday quoted by the Associated Press. “While we were looking forward to doing a fourth one together, the studio and Marvel have a unique opportunity to take the franchise in a new direction, and I know they will do a terrific job.”

The film will be based on a script by James Vanderbilt that focuses on a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises, according to a release from Sony.
