Superman reboot should keep Brandon Routh

Interesting comments and love the loyalty for the man who SHOULD return as superman. I was very dissapointed to learn of the change in actor for the release of the new superman movie. I think Routh was amazing and adhered to what we all think of when we see anyone play superman(Christopher Reeves)he held up his part and carried it in many respects(in a being the superman we all know and love way) I think its a shame that they would tear away this job from him. I was woried about the release of Superman Returns when I heard about that one. and was pleasantly suprized and over joyed to see how well he played superman. now I have to sit back and feel uneasy about this one. and I dread and know in my heart that this one is going to crush the franchise. they had a good thing with Routh. I really enjoyed Returns and even with this cast I fear to the superman franchise... a little late for my vote but thanks anyway for having it. who knows maybe one day the studios will actually listen to what the fans want eh? (yeah right)

Yes, Routh should come back as Superman. Why is it so confusing? Isn't the actor who played Johnny Storm (Human Torch) in the Fantastic Four also playing Capt. America? But Routh would be playing the SAME role. No confusion at all. And if they're starting over the story, so what? Routh as Supes, all the way!

Thanks for the comments! I'd like to see Routh back, too, even though Snyder has already said it's unlikely. I guess at this point we just wait and see what he comes up with - maybe something will change his mind. - Matt

if they recast it's going to be like what happened with batman every film had a new actor as batman and it was so bad. keeping routh is smart ppl already see him as superman. its like saying lets recast reaves in superman 3 becouse it was kinda a reboot had noting to do with the others so i say KEEP ROUTH!!!

P.S. For those who say that people who want Brandon Routh back are in the minority, you're totally wrong. And please stop with the condescending "Get over it!" nonsense. The man was eager to give Superman another shot & has a huge following. Many people who thought otherwise are quite surprised at the support he's receiving for the reboot. As much as I respect his work, Christopher Nolan as producer does NOT guarantee a "perfect" Superman. He was asked to produce a new Superman because the execs at Warner want him to deliver another "Dark Knight". That's fine. I have no problem with that because they care about money first-and-foremost, but you have to wonder why he is producing and not directing himself (maybe he doesn't know enough about Superman mythology or he wants to distance himself in case it's a failure in fan's eyes? Just speculating...). Zack Snyder was chosen as director but was admittedly NOT first on the list to direct (Google it & read the articles for yourselves. he was chosen because of a deadline on producing a Superman film.). While he is credited as director for adapating "300" and "Watchmen" to the screen, people must remember he mostly translated was were essentially graphic novels-as-storyboards to film. It wasn't like he did anything particularly extraordinary, with no disrespect intended towards him. Look, if the film is a success, more power to them, but financial success is not always the mark of a great film. I hope it's a great film. But just remember there are many crappy films that have earned big box office. I just don't buy the notion that anyone tied to 'Superman Returns' coming back for a reboot will contribute in any way to it's failure, least of all Brandon Routh, who was the best thing in the film and appreciated by fans. In fact, his return and Christopher Nolan's name attached to the film would mean the best of both worlds.

I agree with Mike. Brandon Routh was perfect as Superman and truly deserves a second chance. I bet he would bring a whole new style to Clark Kent/Superman in a reboot, if given the opportunity. He can’t be blamed for Superman Returns “failure” ($391,081,192 worldwide box office is considered a failure, go figure…please spare me the budget ratios--the film made money. What about the crazy amount of Superman merchadise that sold? In 2006 I saw more kids & grown-ups wearing Superman T-shirts, sporting mugs, toys, etc. than I've ever seen!) Funny how obsessed comic fans never mention that “Batman Begins” made LESS than SR ($372,710,015 worldwide box office). Moreover, most comic book fans thought X-Men and X-Men 2 were great adapations (in particular X-Men 2, highly regarded as one of the best comic book films) and now many of those same fans are dissing Bryan Singer. I won't argue that “Superman Returns” had several missteps (lack of a new, strong villian and some fist-pumping action, the kid, etc.), but it’s a shame he wasn't given a shot at redeeming himself with a better follow-up. he reintroduce Superman with a good actor & I bet he would’ve delivered an SR 2 full of action & character by going all “Wrath of Khan” on it, as he said he would’ve. Having said that, I don't particular care who directs it. All I would like to see is Brandon Routh back. He is a likable actor and has done some good work. Now that he is a few years older, I bet he can really unleash his acting chops with a good script. Why on earth can't they just deliver an action-packed reboot film and bring back Brandon Routh? Furthermore, these constant reboots are getting annoying, too. Hulk was rebooted in 'The Incredible Hulk' and while many fans loved it, it faired no better in the box office than the Ang Lee 'Hulk'. The fanboys will have something new to bitch about when Batman is rebooted in another 5 years or so and someone new is cast as “The Joker”. Pardon me for getting a little upset, but Brandon Routh bashing is just not cool because the guy was really looking forward to doing a sequel & so were many of us who thought he was great in the role.
