According to Box Office Mojo, the Marvel Studios/Paramount Pictures film “Thor” opened with $66 million in box office earnings over the weekend.

That’s behind last weekend’s “Fast Five,” which made $85.2 million, falling to $32.5 million this weekend.

Box Office Mojo report’s “Thor’s” $66 million is the third highest first-weekend gross yet for the beginning of a Marvel movie franchise, behind “Spider-Man” and “Iron Man,” but as far as estimated attendance, it would rank behind “Hulk” “X-Men” and “Fantastic Four” as well. About 60 percent of “Thor’s” box office came from 3-D screenings of the film.

“Thor” stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Anthony Hopkins as Odin and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.  It was directed by Kenneth Branagh.
