“Mark Valley stars as Christopher Chance in “Human Target.” Chance is a security agent who will become a “human target” to save his client from danger. It’s based on the DC Comics character created by Len Wein, though while the comics character relies heavily on disguise, Valley’s Chance is more interested in hardheaded determination.

A previous TV adaptation of “Human Target” in 1992 lasted just 8 episodes, with Rick Springfield in the lead. The reworked concept for the current series looks to be more lasting, with a second season set to begin in November.

There’s a strong supporting cast in the new “Target.” Chi McBride (“Pushing Daisies”) is Laverne Winston, an ex-police detective who now manages Chance’s bodyguard operation. Guerrero, played by Jackie Earle Haley (“Watchmen”), is a tech expert who helps the crew when needed, though it’s not clear whether he’s always on the side of the angels. The three have a crackling chemistry, and Chance’s simmering personal demons are slowly revealed in each week’s action-packed episode.
