Hobby Lobby making our world a better place

Published: April 20, 2013

Regarding “Hobby Lobby bumps full-time hourly minimum wage to $14” (News, April 16): I was glad to read that Hobby Lobby raised its minimum wage for full-time employees to $14 per hour and $9.50 per hour for its part-timers. I've worked in places that paid minimum wage or close to it. Almost always this is accompanied by poor working conditions, no job security and a lack of respect for employees. Whatever is saved by this type of management is inevitably lost many times over with constant turnover, substandard work performance and rampant theft.

Although minimum wage laws and organized labor can help protect workers from the worst abuses, there's no substitute for a capable, caring employee who wants to do his or her best. Employers smart enough to know this make our world better for all of us. Thanks, Hobby Lobby!
