Just about the entire Southeastern Conference has been hot in pursuit of Douglass defensive end Deondre Clark, the top-ranked player on The Oklahoman's Super 30.
And another SEC power has come on board, with Florida extending a scholarship offer Thursday night, according to Douglass coach Willis Alexander.
Clark already has offers from Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M and others in the SEC, as well as Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Southern Cal, Notre Dame and many more.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pound junior had 22 sacks and 99 tackles last season. Alexander said he expects Clark to narrow his list of schools by the end of May.
SANDERS TAKES NEWCASTLE JOB
Former Cache girls basketball coach Brett Sanders will be the new coach at Newcastle, he confirmed to The Oklahoman.
Sanders, who spent the past season at Siloam Springs, Ark., said he signed the contract Friday afternoon to replace former coach Theresa Johnston, but has yet to meet with next season's team at Newcastle.
A major factor in Sanders deciding to return to Oklahoma is that he felt homesick.
“I got a great team coming back,” Sanders said. “I've got all of my starters coming back here at Siloam, but it's just a deal where I want to get back home. It just didn't feel right being away from all of my family.
