Taylor Thom drove in a pair of runs as the No. 6 Texas softball team held off No. 1 Oklahoma 4-2 on Saturday in Austin, Texas.
Georgia Casey hit a solo home run for the Sooners (38-3,7-1 Big 12). Michelle Gascoigne (15-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits with 10 strikeouts.
The Sooners and Longhorns (39-5,9-1) conclude the series at 3 p.m. Sunday
Cowgirls fall to Kansas
The Oklahoma State softball team hit three home runs in a 9-7 loss to Kansas in Stillwater.
Tiffany Mikkelson, Samantha Chrisman and Tarah Ettinger all homered for OSU (25-21, 3-8 Big 12).
Alex Hugo had a solo homer for Kansas (27-12, 4-4).
Senior Kat Espinosa (14-14) went five innings, allowing five runs on seven hits for the Cowgirls.
The three-game series wraps up at noon Sunday.
OSU tied for second, OU fifth at Big 12 Championships
The Oklahoma State women's golf team fired a 1-over 289 and is tied for second after the second round of the Big 12 Championships at The Harvester in Rhodes, Iowa. Oklahoma shot 5-over 293 and is fifth.
The Cowgirls' two-round total of 606 is tied with Iowa State and one shot behind first-place Baylor. The Sooners are at 615.
Individually, OSU's Julie Yang shot even-par 72 on Saturday and is third at 4-over 148, six shots behind leader Lauren Taylor of Baylor. OU's AC Tanguay is at 6-over after a second-round 70.
The final round is Sunday.
UCO signs class of six
UCO's men's basketball team has signed six players to letters of intent.
The new Bronchos are: 6-foot-4 Garen Wright, who played at Putnam City High before a stint in minor league baseball; 6-3 Aaron Anderson from Edmond Santa Fe, who is transferring from Fresno State; 5-10 Jarrod McDaniel from Midwest City, who is transferring from Seminole State; 6-0 Jacob Richardson from Porter; 6-7 Philip Brown, a transfer from NOC-Enid; and 6-6 Trai Jordan, who played at Southeast and is transferring from Murray State Junior College.
