Ethan Carnes struggled early but rebounded to blank New Orleans the rest of the way, and Oklahoma run-ruled the Privateers 14-3 in seven innings on Sunday at Mitchell Park in Norman.

Carnes allowed three runs on four hits in the first inning, before settling down. New Orleans (6-36) managed just two more hits off the junior lefty, who was making just his second start of the season. Carnes (2-1) walked none and struck out five.

The OU offense helped out, taking the lead for good by the end of two innings. The Sooners mashed 14 hits, including three from Matt Oberste and two each from Anthony Hermelyn and Jack Mayfield. Oberste, Mayfield and Colt Bickerstaff each homered for the Sooners (31-10), who next play Tuesday night at Arkansas in Fayetteville.

OSU FALLS SHORT

Jared King's home run in the sixth inning was the difference Sunday, and Kansas State avoided a sweep by beating Oklahoma State 3-2 in Big 12 baseball at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium in Stillwater.

Kansas State (28-13 overall, 7-5 Big 12) scored twice in the first inning, but OSU came back to tie behind Tanner Krietemeier's RBI grounder and Robbie Rea's solo home run. The Cowboys (27-11, 7-7) tried to score a third run, in the fifth inning, but Gage Green was thrown out at home plate on a grounder to first base. Green led off the inning with a triple.

Oklahoma State plays 6:30 p.m. Tuesday against Wichita State in Stillwater.
