Oklahoma State overtook previous leader Baylor and won the Big 12 Women's Golf Championships on Sunday at The Harvester Club in Rhodes, Iowa. OSU posted a two-shot victory over the Bears, finishing with a three-day team score of 41-over-par 905. Baylor's Lauren Taylor was medalist. She finished with a 3-under 213 and won the championship by eight strokes.
The Cowgirls had four top-10 finishers while winning an eighth Big 12 title — Kelsey Vines, Julie Yang, Jayde Panos and Josephine Janson. All but Vines are underclassmen. Vines finished tied for fifth at 10-over 226.
Oklahoma finished fourth in the team standings, 23 strokes behind OSU. Anne-Catherine Tanguay was the Sooners' top individual. She finished third, 10 shots behind Taylor.
Oklahoma State will host Oklahoma on Saturday at Karsten Creek in Stillwater for the second annual Bedlam Cup Tournament.
OU TAKES BEDLAM TENNIS
Oklahoma jumped to an early lead behind its Nos. 1 and 2 doubles teams and cruised to a 5-2 Bedlam tennis win Sunday over Oklahoma State in Norman. The No. 1 doubles team of Costin Paval and Dane Webb defeated Rifat Biktyakov and Matt Campbell, 8-4. The No. 2 tandem of Guillermos Alcorta and Axel Alvarez Llamas slipped past Richard Del Nunzio and Denys Pume, 9-8 (7-1). Paval, Llamas and Webb also won singles matches.
BERGMAN WINS ASCS EVENT
Seth Bergman of Snohomish, Wash., took the lead on the 22nd of 25 scheduled laps late Saturday night and won the American Sprint Car Series Sooner Region opener at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa. Zach Pringle, Jake Martens, defending points champion Matt Covington and Joe Wood Jr. rounded out the top-five finishers.
OBU WINS FIRST MATCH
The Oklahoma Baptist University women's lacrosse team won its first match in school history late Saturday, defeating Dallas University, 18-13. OBU lacrosse finished its first season with a 1-4 record; the Bison are the only college varsity team in the state. The school recently added the sport to its varsity menu along with football and men's and women's swimming. Tiffany Hanes had seven goals against Dallas, while goalkeeper Sabrina Attaway had nine saves.
