Marvel has released the first official set photo from “Iron Man 3.”

According to Marvel, the film, directed by Shane Black, has begun filming in Wilmington, North Carolina.  Additional locations for the film include Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina; Miami, Florida; and China.

The movie, starring Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, is set for a May 3, 2013 release.  Downey appeared as Iron Man in this summer’s “The Avengers,” which has made more than $1 billion at the worldwide box office so far.

Iron Man first appeared in the comic book “Tales of Suspense” #39 in 1963.
