With recruiting season in full swing, I will be evaluating all 26 prospects who are currently committed to the Oklahoma State football program. I will go in alphabetical order and will post three or four evaluations per day during the next week.
My evaluations will conclude next Friday when I rank OSU’s commitments including their chances of having an immediate impact in Stillwater.
Chris Dinkins, Tyler (Texas) Lee
Position: Receiver/athlete
Ht, Wt: 6-2, 215
Vitals: 4.4 in 40
Picked OSU over… TCU, Kansas, Missouri and others.
Pros: Dinkins shows very good speed on film, has good acceleration and is explosive to the ball. A fluid athlete who can read and react to routes then make the play as a safety. If he does play receiver, his acceleration and explosiveness could be useful. The definition of a athlete who will have the chance to succeed on either side of the football.
Cons: Has expressed a preference to play offense but defense, specifically safety, would probably be his best bet. Likely will need a redshirt year for the Cowboys coaches to decide where he fits in best.
Expect an impact in… 2011. The Cowboys have enough depth at the skill positions that I would expect them to try to redshirt Dinkins. That said, he’s a talented athlete who may play his way out of a redshirt and become a key contributor on special teams.
