With recruiting season in full swing, I will be evaluating all 26 prospects who are currently committed to the Oklahoma State football program. I will go in alphabetical order and will post three or four evaluations per day during the next week.
My evaluations will conclude next Friday when I rank OSU’s commitments including their chances of having an immediate impact in Stillwater.
Devin Hedgepeth, Derby (Kan.)
Position: Defensive back
Ht, Wt: 6-0, 187
Vitals: 4.5 in 40, 34-inch vertical
Picked OSU over… Kansas State, TCU, Wisconsin, Tulsa and others
Pros: Hedgepeth is a very good athlete who is a solid tackler and a physical presence in the secondary. He projects to be a very good corner/safety prospect with the versatility that OSU craves from its safeties. Excellent in run support and willing to take on ball carriers. Opportunistic playmaker.
Cons: Not as sudden or explosive with his movements. Needs to work on his coverage skills if OSU expects him to play corner. Looks a little stiff at times which will hurt him in one-on-one situations.
Expect an impact in… 2011. With Perrish Cox and Terrance Anderson leaving, Hedgepeth could step in and play early if he adapts to the college game quickly because he has the physical talent. He’s a willing tackler who accepts the challenge but, like any high schooler, he could use a season in the weight room to prepare for the Big 12.
