With recruiting season in full swing, I will be evaluating all 26 prospects who are currently committed to the Oklahoma State football program. I will go in alphabetical order and will post three or four evaluations per day during the next week.
My evaluations will conclude next Friday when I rank OSU’s commitments including their chances of having an immediate impact in Stillwater.
Justin Gilbert, Huntsville (Texas)
Position: Athlete
Ht, Wt: 6-0, 173
Vitals: 4.4 in 40, 265 bench
Picked OSU over… Oklahoma, Nebraska, TCU, Texas A&M, Houston, Colorado and others.
Pros: Gilbert is special. It’s as simple as that. He will likely play cornerback for the Cowboys and return kicks. I’d expect the Cowboys to figure out ways to get him the ball because he’s dynamic with it in his hands. He could play a Perrish Cox-type role with maybe even a bigger role on offense especially early in his career. He has exceptional speed, great quickness and change-of-direction ability.
Cons: Has a small frame, needs to put on weight.
Expect an impact in… 2010. I’d be shocked if he redshirts, even though he could really use a year in the weight room. He’s a special talent and looks to have the potential to be a big-time playmaker.
