Report: Holgorsen not headed to Pitt

Dana Holgorsen continues to be a hot commodity in the coaching market.

It could be good news for Oklahoma State.

Or it could be bad.

The Pittburgh Post Gazette is reporting that Dana Holgorsen will not be the new head coach at the University of Pittsburgh. Paul Ziese reports that Holgorsen will not be the choice but says the Cowboys offensive coordinator could be headed to the Big East anyway.

What does that mean?

Well, the Post-Gazette reports that Holgorsen could be headed to West Virginia in a “coach-in-waiting” scenario. He’d install and run his offense for one season under Bill Stewart in Morgantown then become the head coach in 2012.

I am from outside Pittsburgh and graduated in 1978 from WVU. I have leartned not believe anything in the Pittsburgh press and media regarding WVU. The Pittsburgh press and media will do anything to stir up trouble for the Mountaineers. So if it comes from a Pittsburgh source you can expect it to have a negative spin and impact on the Mountaineers.

John Helsley grew up in Del City, reading all the newspapers and sports magazines he could get his hands on. And Saturday afternoons, when the Major League Game of the Week was on, he'd keep a scorecard for the game. So the sports appeal was was deep-rooted at an early age.

Mrs. Jackson, an English/Journalism teacher at Del City High, plucked him for the school paper, The Eagle Beacon, and John was hooked. While he detoured through a brief accounting career, John returned to college (Central Oklahoma) for a second degree and a second career that has seen him cover everything from the preps to the pros at The Oklahoman.

John lives in Edmond with his wife Roberta and two daughters, Sarah and Jillian, who are keeping the family tradition of cheering for the baseball team with the birds on the bat.
