Burns Hargis: Oklahoma State focused on remaining in the Big 12
STILLWATER — Oklahoma State is focused on remaining in the Big 12, school president Burns Hargis told CBSSports.com before Thursday’s game against Arizona.
However, Hargis was unwilling to speculate on the Cowboys’ future if Texas A&M leaves the conference for the SEC.
“I think (the Big 12) can exist,” Hargis said. “I don’t think it’s a feat accompli A&M is gone. Obviously the SEC had a string on their bid.”
He added that if Texas A&M does leave, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are “not necessarily” headed to the Pac-12.
Meanwhile, there were reports Wednesday that the other eight Big 12 schools wouldn’t sign off of Texas A&M’s departure until Oklahoma stated its commitment to the Big 12.
Oklahoma State director of communications Gary Shutt refuted those reports Thursday.
“Speculative reports using unnamed sources implying Oklahoma State University would join others in a lawsuit against the SEC and Texas A&M were incorrect,” Shutt said in a statement.
