By the numbers: Prolific offense, steady defense

Gina Mizell Published: October 30, 2012

We all know that the numbers don’t tell the whole story (or as Todd Monken would say, “stats are, really, for losers”). But each week, we’ll update where Oklahoma State ranks in the NCAA’s major statistical categories.

The “bottom of the barrel” category is shrinking, which does correspond with OSU’s two consecutive dominant performances against Iowa State and TCU.

Offensive numbers are high, as usual. But they’re starting to find a bit of a plateau as we enter the stretch run and move away from the Savannah State game. And as we’ve noted several times, OSU’s defensive numbers are pretty darn solid.

Three weeks ago, OSU ranked 101st in penalties, 65th in third down conversion percentage defense and 92nd in scoring defense. Now, the Cowboys rank 71st, 22nd and 44th, respectively, in those areas. Big jump in all three.
