Saturday marks the one-year anniversary of the plane crash that killed Oklahoma State women’s basketball coach Kurt Budke, assistant Miranda Serna and program supporters Olin and Paula Branstetter. To honor their lives, several activities will take place at OSU this weekend.
*The Memorial Lobby on the south side of Gallagher-Iba Arena will be open Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. with a large banner for visitors to sign.
*There will be a moment of silence observed prior to Saturday’s football game against Texas Tech.
*The Memorial Lobby will open at 1 p.m. Sunday, one hour before the Cowgirl basketball team takes on Weber State. Before tipoff, there will be a moment of “celebration,” rather than a moment of silence.
This week, The Oklahoman has been paying tribute to Budke and Serna with several stories. Here is Anthony Slater’s piece about Serna’s mother, Nettie Herrera, and John Helsley’s story on Alex Budke, Kurt’s son. Tomorrow, I will have a story about new Cowgirl signee Roshunda Johnson, one of the Arkansas high school players Budke and Serna were on their way to see play.
