Pokes Preview: Oklahoma State travels to Norman for Bedlam
Bedlam arrives in Norman today, with Oklahoma State matching up with Oklahoma in a battle of two ranked teams.
Three questions
Is Clint Chelf ready for this?
There’s really no reason to believe he’s not, with the way he performed so well off the bench in Manhattan three weeks ago. He was calm and effective in a hostile environment against a top-10 team. But Bedlam will be different. He knows this, growing up in Oklahoma and in a divided household. His performance and psyche are obviously huge for the Cowboys.
Which coaching staff brings the best wrinkle?
Two years ago, Oklahoma moved into a “50″ defense — which uses five defensive linemen and two linebackers — to slow OSU’s offense down just enough in a Sooner victory in Stillwater. Last season, OSU dialed up blitz package after blitz package and pounded the football on the ground en route to a 44-10 blowout win. Who’s got next?
Can the Cowboys kick their road ways?
OSU played brilliantly at home this season, with six blowout victories and a last-minute (and controversial) loss to Texas. But on the road, it’s been a different story. The Cowboys are 1-2, with the only victory coming in closer-than-expected fashion against Kansas, and have been prone to making mistakes, allowing big plays and turning the ball over away from home. That would be disastrous at Owen Field.
