The skinny
This is one of the more intriguing positions to monitor this spring, particularly with Van Malone moving over from safeties to coach this group. Cornerback was a highly criticized position for the Cowboys last season, with starters Gilbert and Brown accounting for zero interceptions and consistently playing loose coverage on receivers. Still, Brown was a consistent contributor during his career who now needs to be replaced, and Gilbert should be motivated after his disappointing 2012 essentially forced him to come back for his senior season. Peterson and Lampkin, who both saw significant playing time as true freshmen, will battle for the other starting spot in their first spring on campus. Jones will also need to contribute, and the three incoming freshmen could challenge for immediate playing time this fall.
